The Shinigami and the Hedgewitch (PSL)
Once at a young age, Ana desperately wanted to see Japan. He coursins had been lucky enough to go on holiday and on their return had made Ana positively green with envy with their tales of strange places and customs. She'd been fascinated by the unknown, even before she could walk.
Which explained her current path in life as a Hedgewitch, someone that walked the boundries between the physical and the spiritual. It took a certain kind of reckless courage to walk into a place where everything was older, stronger and stranger than you and she had it in spades and a certain kind of determination to deal wuith the rest, the keeping of oaths, healing, the constant study and endless list of things to do. It took her to strange places this life. She didn't expect Japan to be one of them.
She wasn't sure what the name of the town was, having made her way on foot as per directions from a fellow worker that lived in Ana's hometown once upon a time. She had called, panicked, asking for help. 'It's too big!' She said.
So she went. Coming to a stop infront of the quiet apartment building, very small by her standards, Ana closed her eyes and centered herself. Opening her senses to the world beyond she gasped and jerked back from the building. Yuki's wards had been torn apart, the boundries placed their by loving hands decimated.
"No." Ana bolted forward, heading for the stairs to Yuki's apartment. In her panic, she never noticed the residual ghostly deeling of death.

But when she enters the room she see's nothing save for the glimmer of something fading and a presence, heavy and tangible. Yuki's body lay crumpled against the wall like a rag doll, face slack, but teh woman herself, her soul... Where was it.
Directing her attention to the space just above and between her eyes, Ana opens her sight... and see's...
A man. Tall, red haired and ferocious looking, a sword in hand and garbed in black robes.
"Who the bloody hell are you?"

And a woman's voice comes out of nowhere, making him jump a little and turn to look at her, just to make sure she's not a threat. Which she shouldn't be, since there's no way she'd be able to see him.
Except she's staring right at him.
...It has to be a coincidence.
Renji frowns for a moment, says nothing, then turns away, looking for the soul.
...Who is hunkering down in a corner. That's a relief. He slowly approaches, though he keeps his sword drawn, the blade resting on his shoulder. He means no harm. "Hey, relax. You're safe now. I jus' gotta send you off to a better place now."

"Yuki!" Her friend was huddled in the corner, a severed chain hanging from her chest. She looks up a the man and then smiles at Ana as rushes over, hands out though she knew there was naught she could do.
"Adams-san, you came! I'm sorry, I wasn't good enough."
"No, no, it's... I'm sorry I wasn't here in time." She glanced at at the robed being and felt something shiver over her skin. "You know what he is?"
Yuki nodded. "It's okay. This is the way here."

Renji watches as the two girls talk to each other and...well, now it all makes sense. The other woman can see spirits. He rests his left hand on his hip, giving them at least a few minutes to catch up, but soon enough he's going to have to finish the job. He doesn't want to attract other Hollows here, not if he can help it.

"Be happy, okay?" She said backing away and Yuki nodded.
"You too, Adams-san. Goodbye." Ana watched as she turned to the man and spoke in Japanese.
'I am ready, thank you.'

Nodding, he lifts the blade from his shoulder and holds the end of the hilt above the girl's forehead. "Don't be scared, all right? You won't feel a thing."
And, offering her a small smile, he gently taps her forehead with the hilt, performing the konsou. Soon after, the girl's soul slowly disappears, leaving just him and the other woman. Sighing, he sheathes his sword and crosses his arms over his chest.
"You can see me."

She starts a little when he speaks but nods. Thank the Gods she bothered to learn Japanese.
"I can. What are you? A Death wight?" She'd never heard of robed wights in any of the lore she studied.
